A Penchant For Pleasure

All scripture references, unless otherwise noted, are from the King James Version of the Holy Bible.
The Apostle Paul wrote in 2nd Timothy 3:1-5  "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." Lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God? Who doesn't like to have fun or a good time? I don't know of any! But Paul wasn't just speaking of having a good time, he was talking about those who, for whatever reason, were not willing to believe the gospel of the Lord Jesus. Yes the Lord Jesus loved them and died for them too. But as the Bible says in 2nd Thessalonians 3:2b "...for all men have not faith."

The Bible says in Proverbs 14:12, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." (See also  Proverbs 16:25) have you ever heard the expression, "if it feels good do it?" Certainly I would never go against my conscience.  I have often said that if I didn't believe what I have believed, I should change my beliefs! Everything we do is not always wrong, unless it is against the word of God. I heard recently that many of the young people of today who consider themselves Christians, see nothing wrong with living with their boyfriends or girlfriends. If it feels good do it. Or have you ever known anyone whose attitude seemed to be that God would never send them to hell? Well He won't, but your actions may if they are contrary to the word of God.

It was not for no reason that the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 5:29-30, "And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell." Serious stuff! If you can believe the Lord Jesus (and if you are a Christian you should) the Lord indicated that there would be hell to pay for a straying eye or doing wickedly. But it seems so harmless, its not hurting anybody else, and besides what I do in private is no one else's business.

Apostle Paul said in 1st Corinthians 6:18, "...Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body." There is a remedy for sin. The Bible says in 1st John 2:1, "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous..." What John said was "if any man sin," not when any man sins. We are not to sin, period. But someone might say, "if it feels good, can what I do be so wrong? " The Bible says in Hebrews 11:24-26, "By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward."

Reward, did you say reward? The Apostle Paul wrote to the Roman church in Romans 2:3-11, "And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God."

The Bible says in Psalm 16:11  "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." That is true pleasure. My friend, God is no respecter of persons. If you have never turned to God in repentance, putting your faith in Jesus Christ, (See Acts 20:21) today is a wonderful time to start anew. Repent of your sins, find someone who will baptize you in the only name that can save you, the name of Jesus Christ. God has promised and will fill you to overflowing with His Spirit. (See Acts 4:12, Acts 2:1-4 and Acts 2:38) The Lord Jesus will never break His promise to you.
