...Who Jesus is." I love that old chorus, "Everybody Ought to Know." It goes as follows:
Everybody ought to know everybody ought to know,
Everybody ought to know Who Jesus is.
Everybody ought to know everybody ought to know,
Everybody ought to know Who Jesus is.
He's the Lily of the valley, He's the Bright and Morning Star,
He's the Fairest of ten thousand, everybody ought to know.
I'm glad I can say with true conviction with Thomas in John 20:28b, "...My Lord and my God." (That reminds me of another chorus we used to sing the words start out, "He's My Lord and My God
He's not just a stranger to me..." Maybe later.) I suppose that every true Christian wants all men, and women, boys, and girls to be saved and to know who Jesus is. Unfortunately every person in the world does not
know the Saviour and will spend an unending eternity in the fires of hell. It need not be this way for the Bible says in 2nd Peter 3:9 that, "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward,
not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." In the next few verses the Bible says that the world is going to be burned up and that we knowing these
things ought to conduct ourselves in holiness and godliness, "...looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved,
and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? (See 2nd Peter 3:12) It is unfortunate for the world at large because when asked by one of His disciples in Luke 13:23b-24, Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate:
for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Recently I said to someone that Jesus was coming soon and asked them were they ready for His return? The response I received was to keep my preaching for those who needed it. I must admit that I thought everyone needed it. Not all who hear the preaching of the word will be ready for the return of the Lord Jesus. But Jesus did say in Matthew 7:6, "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you." I want to meet Him in peace. What of those who have not heard? Well is God just? The Bible says in 1st Corinthians 15:45, "And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." In the creation of Adam the Bible says in Genesis 2:16-17, "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
Then in Genesis 3:1-5 the Bible says, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." (Let me interject a thought here and say that we should never try to answer the devil. He is far more intelligent than we are. Even Michael the Archangel in Jude 1:9, "...durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.") The Bible goes on to describe the fall of Adam in Genesis 3:6-7, "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons." Adam had received a direct command from God to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he did and he died and all of his posterity that followed were subject to death. Yes God is Just.
Friend of mine you need not suffer the wrath of God against Adam and his posterity. And His wrath will be executed at the coming of the Lord Jesus. If you will turn to God in repentance and to the Lord Jesus in faith (see Acts 20:21) He will forgive you and save you. Jesus went to Calvary to take the sin of Adam and his posterity upon Himself. Do what Apostle Peter commanded both the Jews in Acts 2:38, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." and the Gentiles in Acts 10:48, "And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord."
