I was looking at an article by Dr. Gerald Schroeder about Science and God. In it he wrote a quote from an ancient Jewish sage Moses Maimonides who wrote, "...that if you want to find God, the first place to look is in nature." I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Schroeder but if one really wants to find God, they need
look no further than the Messiah. Moses (the law giver Moses) said in Deuteronomy 18:15-16, "The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou
desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not."
Further, God said according to Moses in Deuteronomy 18:17-20, "...They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die." (See also the Acts of the Apostles 3:22-23)
The prophet Jesus was from among the Jewish brethren and He was like Moses in that He did many miracles before them. In addition He spoke only what His Father taught Him to say. In the New Testament in John 5:18-19 The Bible says, "Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise." Jesus did not presume to speak for God but as a man He was the promised Messiah and in the Spirit He was the mighty God.
Another man, Martin Luther by name, is reputed to have said ,"if you want to find God, let your search begin at Jesus Christ and let it end there." (This is not an exact quote but a paraphrase) The Jewish nation ceased to exist from about 70 AD until 1948 AD, because they rejected their Messiah. The Bible says in John 1:10-13, "He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." I am truly glad that I have received Him and by His grace have become a son of God.
My friend, if you will truly receive the Lord Jesus, repent of your sins, (see Luke 5:32) be baptized in the name of Jesus to have your sins forgiven (see Acts 4:12) and God has promised to give you His Holy Spirit, (see Acts 1:5-8) evidenced by speaking in a language you never learned. (see Acts 2:1-4) You will never be sorry you obeyed Apostle Peter's words in Acts 2:38!
