The King of Israel

All scripture references, unless otherwise noted, are from the King James Version of the Holy Bible.
The Jewish Scriptures (or the Old Testament to the Christians) say a lot about the King of Israel. One question is asked in the Book of Psalms, found in Psalm 24:8 and in Psalm 24:10, "... Who is this King of glory?" To the Jewish mind I suppose these verses are somewhat self explanatory. All the verses in  Psalm 24:7-10 say, "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah." To the Jew It is obviously God. To a born again Christian it speaks of the Lord Jesus.

In Psalm 22:1a the words are the words spoken by the Lord Jesus, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (see Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34) As I re-read the Psalm, I was struck by the numerous references that the Lord fulfilled, even in His last hours! But I want to take it a little further and put Psalm 22, 23, and 24 together. In Psalm 22 the scripture starts out with the words, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" This Psalm speaks to me of Jesus on Calvary's cross during His suffering. Psalm 23, commonly known as the Shepherd Psalm, speaks of His death. Psalm 24 asks the question,  "Who is this King of glory?" The compilation of the three Psalms together speaks to me of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.

To you my friend, whether Jewish or not, I urge you to repent of your sin, turn from them to the living God Jesus Christ, be baptized in the precious name of Jesus to have your sins forgiven and God has promised to fill you with His Spirit. (See Acts 2:38 and Acts 4:12) The Lord Jesus is after all the only king of glory, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (See Revelation 17:14 and Revelation 19:16) And in conclusion 1st Timothy 1:17 says, "Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen."
