Independence is Dependant on Dependence on God

This short post is in honor of Independence Day for the United States of America, July 4th. 2011.  You  may have heard the expression, "freedom is not free."  It is true.  Many Americans have given that  "last full measure of devotion," as President Abraham Lincoln so eloquently said of those who fought and died at Gettysburg. My hope and prayer is that this great nation will continue to celebrate the 4th. of July until the Lord Jesus comes back. Jesus  said in John 8:36, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." This nation may not survive the onslaught of its besetting sin, for the Bible says in Psalm 9:17, "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God." The United States of America is not immune from the judgments of God. 

There are among us those that would like to remove God from our national consciousness but we must never forget that our nation was founded upon trust in God.  It is not an accident that the Declaration of Independence was called "The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America." In that "unanimous" declaration the founding fathers said, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."  Our freedoms that we celebrate on this Independence Day are vouchsafed by God Himself, as long as we retain in our consciousness the Author of our liberty, as long as we, as a nation, don't forget God. Our independence is truly dependant on the Lord Jesus.
