The Mystery of Godliness

All scripture references, unless otherwise noted, are from the King James Version of the Holy Bible. The  Greek meaning of the words mentioned are from the Apostolic Polyglot Bible.
In 1st Timothy 3:16 the Apostle Paul wrote, "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."  How can one be both a son and his own father at the same time? That is a mystery. This I think was the problem that the 2nd century theologians were confronted with. They recognized that in this life, it is indeed impossible. Thus they came up with what they thought was the solution to the mystery, the trinity. It is sad that they only thought in terms of this life. The Lord Jesus said in Luke 18:27"And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God."

The Lord Jesus said in John 10:30, "I and my Father are one." I want you to note that Jesus was speaking of the works He did in His Father's name were what bore witness of Him. He went on to speak of His sheep which heard His voice and followed Him. He said in John 10:28-29, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." just before He declared He and the Father were  one. It was at this point that the Jews took up stones to stone Him because they said in John 10:33, "...For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God." They were mistaken though because He being God made Himself man.

There are some who ask, Who was Jesus praying to then? Others have asked if the Lord was throwing His voice? No, He was praying as a faithful Son to the Father. Does that make them two? No, the Apostolic Polyglot Bible says, "I and the father -- we are one." What this means to me and to those Jews who took up stones to stone Jesus is "I exist with the Father as one." So what does this mean to you? What I hope is that you too will recognize Jesus as Paul proclaimed in 1st Timothy 1:17"Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
