Preparing for Disaster

I was listening to the BBC the other night in which the program centered on groups preparing for disaster. It was interesting to listen to. If you have internet access you can listen to the program at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01x18sc. (You don't have to be a political liberal to listen to it) On the broadcast the interviewer spoke with several different groups. By-in-large they are made up of ordinary people who think that when a major disaster strikes, the government will not be there to help them so they are preparing to help themselves. There is a disaster that is coming on this world.

A disaster is coming that the prepper movement will not be able to avoid. The Lord Jesus said in Matthew 24:43-44, "But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." (See also Luke 12:39-40) Now I have never been a fear monger, however since turning my life over to the Lord Jesus in 1965 I have been a reader of the Word of God as the Lord commanded me on the day of my conversion. One of the first passages I read at the beginning of my walk with God is found in Matthew 10:28 where the Lord Jesus said, "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (See also Luke 12:4-5)

I know that it is not fashionable to think of the Lord Jesus as an angry God but the Bible says in 2nd Thessalonians 1:7-9  "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power..." Yes, the Lord Jesus will come back one day soon and He will, as God, return "In flaming fire" to take "vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ..." The Lord Jesus said in the second reference above (Luke 12:5) "But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him." Jesus is coming back to this world to take His church out, the question is, are you prepared?

Preppers are looking for a way to survive after the next big disaster strike. But the greatest catastrophe for this world will be the return of the Lord Jesus. And He will return! The Bible says in Hebrews 9:28, "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." It will be a catastrophe for those who are looking for the wrong things but to those who are looking for Jesus to come back to take His church home it will be salvation. My friend, if you have never repented of your sins and put your faith in the Lord Jesus for their forgiveness (See Acts 20:21) I implore you do so today. The Apostle Peter said to his Jewish listeners in Acts 2:38-39, "...Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."
